So far in The Iliad the Greeks have come up to the coast of Troy and Agamemnon took Chryseis for himself, Odysseus was commanded to take the girl to Thebes. Agamemnon saw Achilles sitting with his friend and decided to share his treasure and decided to give Chryseis to Achilles. I have not read too much because of my past busy schedule but I will be getting back on the and finishing up the book.

This week so far i have read about 5 pages so far in The Iliad due to my busy schedule. My favorite line of the book so far would have to be "Thetis, the daughter of the blue-haired blue-bearded Nereus, who dwelt in the depths of the Aegean Sea, together with his consort, Doris, and their fifty daughters." I like this part because I think of people who have blue hair.

Assignment 1: March 28, 2011

The book I have chosen to read is The Iliad by Homer. I chose it by looking for interesting books in the library and reading about what the book is about. Some of my friends helped me choose the book too they told me that it sounded interesting and it sounded like something that I would enjoy reading. I have not read anything so far.

Final Assignment
The four main characters in The Sound and the Fury are Benjy: who is the narrator in section 1. He happens to be mentally retarded and is suppose to be a 33 year old man who has flashbacks to his child hood, Caddy: who is the only daughter in the Compson family and who's life is described within the first three sections of the book, she has an illiterate daughter who was named after her dead brother Quentin, Jason: who is the brother of Benjy, Caddy, and Quentin. He is the Narrator in section three. In this section he explains his relationship with his sister and his niece. Quentin: the narrator in section 2. He is a freshman in college at Harvard and he committed suicide before he finished his first year in the college. The minor characters in this book are the black servant who takes care of the children in the Compson family and in the fourth section could "foresee" their doom named Dilsey. Along with the mother of Caddy, Benjy, Quentin and Jason who also ends up having Hypochondria; Caroline Compson.
The flashbacks that happen in this book explain the narrators life growing up in the early 1900's. The characters have to learn to live through hard times with the death of their father and brother, living with a hypochondriac mother, and a sister who is single and has an illiterate daughter and with a brother who is mentally retarded. It shows how to live through life with all these difficult obsticles.
I would have to give this book a 3. I give it a 3 because i know that it is a hard read and people will get bored with it. There were some tough parts in it that I struggled with understanding. I would recommend this if people like challenging books that really make a person think about what they are reading and using what they know about psychology to understand the different things that the characters in this story have to deal with in their every day life and it will help in their understanding the stream of consciousness that happens in this book.
I plan on reading either A Clockwork Orange or The Color Purple, Sierra has read A Clockwork Orange and recommended it to me, telling me that she thought I would like reading it. I have heard from other people that The Color Purple is a great book so I would like to be a judge in that decision making process

Assignment 3: February 18, 2011
The Sound and the Fury Book Review So far in this book 3 of the main characters were looking for a quarter in the stream and ended up getting wet and when they went home expecting to get a whipping they were sent to the kitchen to eat supper then sent to their beds because they had company and they weren't aloud to be loud. One of the children said that it was a funeral and their sibling started to make a fuss about it so they were sent with one of the stable boys so they would not cause attention from the funeral. This is what has happened so far in this book. I am enjoying it it is a tough read because they use a different way of speaking and it is taking me longer to comprehend what they are talking about but i am enjoying it non the less

Assignment 2: January 27, 2011
World literature book:
I have not picked a book yet for reading in this course but I do plan on reading Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut or A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. One reason why I am going to read this book is because I love books that are about WWI. I find it interesting and I love reading about the different lives that people lived during that time.

Assignment 1: January 14, 2011
My favorite books:
Anything by Nicholas Sparks. I have also been drawn into reading a book called Skinned. This book interested me when she was treated like a human before she "died" and then was treated less than human when they "created" body for her. I like almost any type of mystery. In my Individualized Literature class last semester we had to do a lot of reading and I found myself reading many Nicholas Sparks books. One of my favorite books by Nicholas Sparks was The Guardian that book made me think about different things that go through a persons mind when they are being stalked or when they are doing the stalking. I also love reading the Mythology books especially Greek and Roman Mythology.
